Holden Unwraps New Commodore SS V, Previews 2014 Chevrolet SS [w/Video]

It looks like Holden is trying to grab as much attention as it can with the new generation Commodore VF by spreading out the presentations for each different model of the range.
After the unveiling of the regular Commodore this past weekend, GM's Australian subsidiary announced the performance SS V , which is the closest thing we've seen to the 2014 Chevrolet SS Sports Sedan, which is scheduled to debut this Saturday, February 16 at the Daytona International Speedway.

Holden has peppered the SS V with an air of sportiness through the use of different aerodynamic and styling components such as the smaller front grille and a re-styled front bumper that incorporates a second grille and gloss black trims, side skirts, a boot lid spoiler and a new rear bumper with a diffuser and quad tailpipe outlets.
The pre-production showcar seen here also rides on 20-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in beefy sport tires, while the body is finished in a new Fantale orange metallic paint specially created for this model.
Inside, the SS V benefits from a sportier-themed cabin than the regular Commodore VF with sculpted seats finished in leather with a suede stripe in the center that hug the driver, aluminum trims, a flat-bottom steering wheel and suede accents on the dashboard and doors.
“The sports DNA may be more subtle, but it’s apparent everywhere around you – from the central accent stripe on the seats to the perforated leather inserts, the carbon fibre look cross-car applique, the SS-V Series embroidered ID on the instrument panel, alloy-faced pedals and the traditional red-lit graphic displays,”, said Sharon Gauci, Holden’s Chief Designer, Colour and Trim.
As with the other Commodore VF models, Holden won't say what's hiding under the bonnet, but chances are the rear-wheel drive sports sedan will feature either GM's new LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine with 450-horses that debuted on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray or one of its existing V8s with more than 400-ponies. The showcar was equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but both the SS V and the Chevy SS are likely to be offered with an automatic transmission as well.
Sales of the new Holden Commodore will begin in Australia during the second half of the year.
